Lina is just like any other fifteen-year-old Lithuanian girl in 1941. She paints, she draws, she gets crushes on boys. Until one night when Soviet officers barge into her home, tearing her family from the comfortable life they've known. Separated from her father, forced onto a crowded and dirty train car, Lina, her mother, and her young brother slowly make their way north, crossing the Arctic Circle, to a work camp in the coldest reaches of Siberia. Here they are forced, under Stalin's orders, to dig for beets and fight for their lives under the cruelest of conditions.
Lina finds solace in her art, meticulously-and at great risk-documenting events by drawing, hoping these messages will make their way to her father's prison camp to let him know they are still alive. It is a long and harrowing journey, spanning years and covering 6,500 miles, but it is through incredible strength, love, and hope that Lina ultimately survives. Between Shades of Gray is a novel that will steal your breath and capture your heart.

So..... good! I want this book so bad!
Amazing book! loved loved loved the ending, must read!
Although this book is sad and pretty depressing...it's so hooking! So, the main character Lina is taken away from her home with her younger brother Jonas, and her mom by the Soviet Union to Siberia. Her father was also taken away to a prison camp. The Soviet Union gathers Lina's family and many others onto these trains, where she meets Andrius.
I want to read this book because it is told to me it is a great book with a few hard words in adult level and can be a children's book, I have looked many times for the book because they were all out of stock or they would have to look it up online. I have finally found the book!
this book is amazing. its a true story about Lina and its in memory of her brother. if i could just tell you what happens in this book i would but what fun would that be. READ THE BOOK YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU DID
