This stunning debut novel about grief and wonder was an instant New York Times bestseller and captured widespread critical acclaim, including selection as a 2015 National Book Award finalist! Oddlot Entertainment has acquired the screen rights to The Thing About Jellyfish, with Gigi Pritzker set to produce with Bruna Papandrea and Reese Witherspoon.

After her best friend dies in a drowning accident, Suzy is convinced that the true cause of the tragedy must have been a rare jellyfish sting-things don't just happen for no reason. Retreating into a silent world of imagination, she crafts a plan to prove her theory--even if it means traveling the globe, alone. Suzy's achingly heartfelt journey explores life, death, the astonishing wonder of the universe...and the potential for love and hope right next door.

The Thing About Jellyfish is a great book, though it is kind of sad. Suzy's friend dies because she got stung by a jellyfish. My favourite part is when Suzy is reading the sign of the enigma jellyfish, how Ali Benjamin describes the Irukandji sting. It is so describing and strong. It's my favourite part I definitely recommend this book.

This was an amazing book. It was about a girl whose best friend grows less closer to her, and one day dies. Suzy then refuses to speak. She loves science is finds Jellyfish amazing. Will she ever get over her bff's death? Read this fab book to find out.

This book is so sad it made me want to cry. Suzy deals with her best friend Franny's death by not talking. Not to anyone. Suzy didn't get to say good-bye, she didn't even find out until two days later. She didn't get to make it up to Franny. Franny was drowned, Suzy's mom says that things just happen but what if it was someone else's fault or something's. Suzy knows that Franny was a strong swimmer and was reading that the beach Franny was at didn't have big waves. So when she discovers a jellyfish that might have killed her friend she will do anything to find out. Maybe then she won't feel like the one that is the villain. This is an amazing book and anyone who hasn't read this book should. It is really moving.

This book is pretty good! It reminds me of out of my mind w hich is the same type of book. The cov er is really pretty and cool also!

Suzy is quiet. She didn't used to be quiet, in fact, she wouldn't stop talking. Now it just seems easier to her to not talk. Her parents are worried about her. They bring her to "the kind of doctor she can talk to". But she doesn't talk. She hasn't talked since her former-best-friend died. People say she drowned, but Suzy knows she didn't. Because Suzy thinks she has been stung by a jellyfish. Not just any jellyfish. She knows it was the Irukandji. It is nearly impossible to see in the water. It is also extremely deadly. Suzy searches for experts on jellyfish. She finally finds the one. A man named Jamie who she knows can help her. Help her prove that Franny's death wasn't by drowning. Prove that "some things just happen" isn't a real answer. But can she do it?
