Oversized illustrated hardback edition of the first part of JRR Tolkien's epic masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings, fully reset and featuring full-page watercolour paintings by award-winning artist, Alan Lee. Sauron, the Dark Lord, has gathered to him all the Rings of Power -- the means by which he intends to rule Middle-earth. All he lacks in his plans for dominion is the One Ring -- the ring that rules them all -- which has fallen into the hands of the hobbit, Bilbo Baggins. In a sleepy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task, as his elderly cousin Bilbo entrusts the Ring to his care. Frodo must leave his home and make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ring and foil the Dark Lord in his evil purpose.

I started reading this book because everyone kept nagging me to read it. I am going to stop reading this book because I don't see the action in it. I think I am going to read Divergent.

Flawless masterpiece of the wonderful J.R.R Tolkien. Recommend it to anyone looking for an old tale with a new heart. I cry everytime I read it! (In a good way)

I really recommend this to anyone who is into science fiction/fantasy. It is really complex and layered. The writing can be a bit difficult so I would say ages 10/11 up (in reading level). So anyways the protagonist is a hobbit (please the hobbit/there and back again the prequel to this series first). His name is Frodo and he is going on a journey to destroy a ring in his possession which has become extremely dangerous. I won't say any more. Happy reading! P.S. there is some slightly scary stuff in it but most sci-fi/fantasy readers are used to it. :)

I tried reading this book last year...good luck with understanding it! I wish there was a simplified version. Maybe then I could understand it!

I really like this book! It is long and not much like the hobbit but I still really like it!

I like it, it's a really cool book. danger every were with excitement in plenty of places. only thing that it could use more of is lots of dragons!

I never read this book. this has a lot of action and adventure. those four hobbits were set on an adventure to break the curse of this ring. First, the uncle puts on this ring with the curse that works easily on men on his party. Then, he gives it to his grandson. boy, the uncle must be super super OLD! then, the wizard appears (I don't know witch wizard but who cares!) And tells him to find his 3 other friends/hobbits and go on an adventure. This book is for people who like fantasy, action, adventure, creatures, fiction, magic, and special culture! Wanna know why I know so much? 'cause I watched ALL three movies!!! this is a orignal best times seller! millons of people love this worldwide!
