Life is boring when you live in the real world, instead of starring in your own book series. Owen knows that better than anyone, what with the real world’s homework and chores.
But everything changes the day Owen sees the impossible happen—his classmate Bethany climb out of a book in the library. It turns out Bethany’s half-fictional and has been searching every book she can find for her missing father, a fictional character.
Bethany can’t let anyone else learn her secret, so Owen makes her a deal: All she has to do is take him into a book in Owen’s favorite Kiel Gnomenfoot series, and he’ll never say a word. Besides, visiting the book might help Bethany find her father…
…Or it might just destroy the Kiel Gnomenfoot series, reveal Bethany’s secret to the entire world, and force Owen to live out Kiel Gnomenfoot’s final (very final) adventure.

I finally got a chance to read this book and it was really quite the ride. You would never expect anyone that you think you know to be someone else. In Story Thieves, Owen goes to school with a girl named Bethany. One day at the library, Owen witnesses Bethany come out a book. It turns out that Bethany was searching for her father because she is not actually from our world, but the story world. She doesn't know which story her father is in, so she has been looking for him in many different books. Owen is fascinated by her ability and makes a deal with her. She must take him into his favorite book, and in exchange he will not tell her secret. Bethany agrees and this also allows her to search for her father. This book may be Owen's favorite from the real world, but in the story world, it just might destroy him and Bethany.
I just finished this book and it is amazing. I loved how there were two things going on at once with an interesting cast of characters. I have never read a book like this. The book actually had the author of the book inside the book. I think that was super cool. I can't wait to read the next book in the Story Thieves series.
This wonderful book by James Riley is a great addition to his works. He once again illustrates a story so real you can't help but feel like you're part of the story, following the characters' every steps. It's full of suspense and unpredictable twists and turns that keep you on your toes until the last page is turned. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and hope other readers will too!
Someone please tell Owen that he is in a book himself. Well, if you did, you are like Bethany. Half-fictional people are not real.
Story Thieves is an absolutely unique book that will twist your mind into a pretzel. It's a story, in a story, inside another story. The author even had the audacity to add himself in the book which is BOLD and I LOVE IT. Bethany can travel into books and story worlds, and when Owen sees her come out of a book easy as you please he BEGS and PLEADS for her to take him into his favorite series ever to meet his favorite character, Kiel Gnomenfoot. I enjoyed every part of Story Thieves and I have no critiques. It was like reading two books in one and ANYONE will love it - especially those Harry Potter fans out there! But honestly, if you're a lover of books and you don't mind losing your sanity to a book series, then start reading right NOW!
Wow!This book was great. It is about a boy named Owen and a girl named Bethany. However, Bethany is half fictional and she was been looking everywhere for her missing father. So when Owen see's Bethany climb out of a book. They go on a great adventure!I recommend!
i liked this book. its never good to steal things like when you do bad things can happen like they did. even stories will misbehave and dont like to be taken from the people who wrote them. it could be fun to try to catch them again and even hang out with some characters
Everything changes when Owen saw Bethany climb out of a book. Owen wanted Bethany to take him to his favorite series. Good to read, it's a very good book.
This book is really good! This book is about a boy named Owen. When he sees his classmate Bethany coming out of a book, he promised that if she can get him to his favorite Kiel Gnomenfoot series, he'll never say a word. But when he goes in the book, he is in deep trouble.......
