It's a perfect world, where everything looks right. But ugly truths lie beneath…

Imagine a world without poverty, war or pain. A world where everything is comfortable and familiar - a world where everything is the same. No colour, no music. In such a world, Jonas is selected to be the next Receiver of Memory and is apprenticed to the Giver, an old man who stores memories from the Community’s past. As Jonas learns about violence and sadness, as well as beauty and joy, he discover the sinister truth behind his safe existence.

Simply and beautifully written, The Giver is a thought-provoking look at utopian society. It was awarded the Newbery Medal in 1994.

Lois Lowry is magnificent. This fictional fantasy really makes you think about the world around you...at least it did for me. Although this is a fantasy, Lois Lowry left me thinking about the world around me.

it was okay......./: i didnt enjoy it that much it could have been better the end was sad though ya

It is a futuristic dystopia in which there is lack of concern, happiness, sadness, anger, pain or any kind of emotion or feeling. Each person in the community is assigned a meticulous job. Meanwhile, the protagonist, Jonas, is assigned to be the the community's Receiver of Memory in which he is the only one who will actually feel these emotions in physically and The Giver if you read the book you will find more about it i defiantly recommend it

This is an AMAZING book. Jonas lives in an utopian world without options, feelings, or even colors. Grown-ups get assigned mates and children. Kids that are age 12 get assigned jobs. No one knows pain. One day, Jonas gets assigned the job "Receiver of Memory" Then, his whole life changes....

iT MADE ME CRY AT THE END! i WANT A SECOND BOOK! iT IS SO SAD AND GOOD! i LOVED IT!

this is a awesome book. my 3rd grade teacher read it to me.this guy lives i a colorless world. and thn he wants to leave his town and now he will maybe live or die doing it. Follow me

It is the fist book of the giver series and it is amazing. Jonas lives in a colorless world where your mates and children are chosen for you but after he is assigned to his assignment (job), he wants out of this town. Will he live or die trying?

I first read this book in 5th grade- It was really good. Johnnis lives in a distopian society, where all his life he sees only in black and white, never felt pain, and assigned a specific job when he turns 12 or 13. He is lead to believe he lives in a perfect world, but when he meets The Giver, hes sees things in a whole new light- literally and figuratively.

I love ths book. The setting is a so-called "perfect" world, but is it? It makes the reader think and want more to the story. Plus, I like it, so you should. Five stars.

I believe that this book is extraordinary. This book comes to show that you can't stop believing!
